Typically, articles should range from 800 to 1,500 words. However, longer pieces may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Infographics, handouts, and other resources for publication are also welcome.

Proposal Format

We require a brief proposal of your article or resource idea. Submissions should be in Google Document format and written in English (US).

Please utilize this proposal template and follow the directions within.

Documentation and Sources

All articles must include citations of relevant references, sources, and studies. All statements must be backed by evidence-based research or reliable sources.

Link your main sources in the article text and include them in an AMA-style reference list at the end of your article. Provide additional in-text links for improved reader comprehension.

Aim to include one or more US-based subject matter expert quotes in most articles (ask for assistance if you’re unsure how to source them or would like help doing so). Make sure to gather their information, inclusive of their full name, credentials, title, association, contact information, preferred biography page link, and e-mail address.

Plagiarism

All articles are subject to review for originality, accuracy, and plagiarism checks. All content must be original, and any direct quotes must be clearly attributed with correct citation information. Any suspected violations of this policy will be investigated and could result in the article being rejected or retracted.

Responsible Reporting

We ask authors to commit to upholding the highest standards of professional conduct in their writing, including adhering to accurate and responsible reporting practices. All articles must be free of any errors or omissions that would lead readers astray, misrepresent facts, or give false hope. We also ask authors to provide balanced information, aiming to avoid personal bias and any potential conflicts of interest.

We expect all authors to comply with our ethical guidelines for health communication, which include adhering to applicable professional codes of conduct and avoiding language that could be considered offensive. We also ask authors to ensure their content respects diversity and does not contain discriminatory terms or stereotypes.

Acceptable Language

If you are unsure of the politically correct and socially appropriate way to discuss a certain topic, please reach out to the editor for advice! We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for our readers, and that starts with language.

Quality Standards

To ensure the highest quality of content, an editor will review all articles before publication. The editor reserves the right to change or edit articles for clarity, accuracy, and adherence to our standards.

Once an article is accepted for publication, we require authors to review all changes made by the editor before it is published. We also ask that authors let us know if they have any objections or concerns about how their article appears in its final form.

Clear and Engaging Writing Style

We ask authors to keep their writing style concise and engaging while providing readers with accurate and helpful information. We strive to make our content readable for all levels of readers — from beginners to nutrition experts.

In addition, we ask authors to strive for a professional writing style that is free of grammar and spelling errors. A good rule of thumb is to read your article out loud — if it sounds awkward or confusing, you should consider revising the text. We use academic language, but we explain all terms and concepts clearly so that we are accessible and engaging to both nutrition professionals and non-nutrition experts.

Proofreading and Editing

All articles must go through a process of proofreading and editing for accuracy, language, readability, errors, typos, factual inaccuracies, omissions, or inconsistencies. The use of Grammarly or other similar tools is highly recommended.

Copyright, Rights, and Licensing

By submitting an article to Dietitian Insights, the author(s) agree to assign full copyright of the article to Dietitian Insights. This includes all rights of reproduction and distribution in any form. We will also retain the right to publish, edit, alter, and republish any submitted material.

By submitting an article to Dietitian Insights, the author(s) declare:

  • All submitted content is original and not previously published.

  • All submitted content does not infringe upon any copyright, proprietary right, trademark, personal right, or other property right of any person or entity.

While authors who are members of the collaborative are compensated for their contributions, guest authors are not entitled to payment for accepted articles, which are presented to readers free of charge.

Guest authors may include a link to their business website and/or LinkedIn profile in their author bio.

By submitting an article to Dietitian Insights, authors release all rights associated with the material and agree to indemnify Dietitian Insights against any and all claims arising from its publication.

Sharing and Promoting Articles

We invite authors to share their published articles with their own networks via social media or other digital platforms, with proper attribution to Dietitian Insights. We also encourage authors to link to their articles from their blog or website.

We value a collaborative approach to content promotion and are happy to discuss cross-promotion opportunities if they align with our mission at Dietitian Insights.

Rejection/Withdrawal Policy

Dietitian Insights reserves the right to reject any content submitted for publication. We also reserve the right to withdraw any article from publication at any time, for any reason. We may also require authors to make revisions or corrections before an article is published.

Authors are solely responsible for the content of submitted articles. Dietitian Insights does not accept responsibility for inaccuracies in manuscripts or references. Authors must notify the publication of any potential conflict of interest with respect to submitted articles and acknowledge any affiliations or financial interests mentioned in the text.

Editing Process and Publication

Once accepted for publication, all articles will go through an editing process to ensure quality, clarity, and accuracy. The editors will attempt to preserve the author's voice whenever possible.
